Childhood Obesity linked to lack of sleep
![]() |
Sleep is now being linked with the rise in childhood obesity figures. Studies show that lack of sleep disturbs hormone production which controls our appetite for high calorie food and expenditure of energy.
A hormone called ghrelin released by the stomach to signal hunger has been recorded at 15 per cent higher for people having 5 or less hours sleep each night compared with people getting eight hours each night.
TV’s, mobiles and computer games are being blamed for keeping children a wake and affecting there sleep.
Studies show that one in four children who are aged between 11 – 15 years of age are now obese with almost half of girls classed as obese or overweight.
Could removing TV’s and other electronic gadgets be the answer to ensure a strict bedtime routine?
